// last visits & sundries.
Farewell for now, NYC. My last week in the city was spent with Joe and my mother–looking at skyscrapers from atop other skyscrapers, eating Indian, Cuban, Vietnamese, French, and Thai food, visiting Lady Liberty for the first time, and standing in a three-hour line for the infamous foodie craze, the cronut. Yes, mother and I woke up just before the sun to hunt the flaky, jelly and cream-filled pastry. Well, we did that twice. The first day, we were too far back in line to have any hopes of purchasing one of the 300 cronuts sold per day. Therefore, we traipsed around the city until we were exhausted, and woke up an hour earlier (and not really any wiser) on Cronut Retrieval Day 2.
It did not disappoint. We ate one cronut immediately (obviously) and it’s crunchy outside, slightly sweet frosting on top, and gooey cream and blackberry jelly had us in a sugar high mere minutes after purchase. We saved the second cronuts for the afternoon, and I must say, those were even better. The light, flaky croissant layers had a few hours (while we napped) to soak up all of the inner goodness.
My last two days were spent packing up my room, ordering-in, and boarding a plane back to Alabama. I’m spending August visiting friends and family and enjoying the slower pace.
