My great mistake, the fault for which I can't forgive myself, is that one day I ceased my obstinate pursuit of my own individuality // Oscar Wilde

// little update–stripes & spots.

You guys, NYC has been so rainy. What even is this? Therefore, this week’s outfit post was taken indoors.

DSC_0023 DSC_0027 DSC_0029Outfit details // DV by Dolce Vita Cheetah Print Oxfords (my mom scored this pair for only $20!) // H & M dress // J. Crew mutli-buckle leather belt // Felt hat, thrifted // Smashbox “Infrared” matte red lipstick // Madewell gold bangle // Forever 21 triangle painted earrings //

Things have been busy–I met Isaac this week! It was a brief meeting, but I think the red lipstick helped me to stand out. I didn’t wear this exact outfit, but it was pretty close. The red lips, hat, and shoes stayed the same.

I am focusing my efforts on social media for both Gabriela Moya and Isaac Mizrahi. For GM, I am managing the Pinterest and Facebook (please Like and follow us!) and at IM, I am comparing successful fashion brands and their use of social media. As it turns out, this is pretty extensive. There are even infographics for it. So I’ve been researching and researching and researching. Hope and I are going to begin an intern project at IM next week and we will possibly be styling some upcoming garments/accessories around the city. CROSS YOUR FINGERS. That would be so fun!

Also, how did I forget to mention that I was a featured guest blogger for The Hemborg Wife two weeks ago?? Where has the time gone?? Go read my post (“Accidental First Dates”) and see what Bailie is up to. She took a little trip to Cali and spends most of her days being a lovely wife in Sweden (sounds great, right?!).

Recipe // Sweet Potato Gnocchi

I did something new this weekend! In the midst of the note-taking, the exam-cramming, the fashion show planning, the movie watching book reading, tv show gorging, and coffee-making, I decided to make something. From scratch. Allison would be so proud.

I made my own pasta! I stumbled upon this recipe for Sweet Potato Gnocchi with Balsamic-Sage Brown Butter  and tried it out. Despite the warnings from Alyssa of pretzel-like side-effects, the pasta was actually a success!

DSC_0010 DSC_0014 DSC_0021 DSC_0023 DSC_0027aida-mollenkamp-gnocchi-recipe-590x885The last photo is from the recipe I used, thanks to Aida Mollenkamp. Her recipe was very helpful and easy! However, disclaimer: making pasta takes way, way longer than you would think and uses way, way more flour than you thought was necessary.

In case you don’t want to take my word for it, this guy liked it. Or he at least claimed to. His facial expression kind of says otherwise.

Going back in time.

Allison found these photos when she developed her medium format film from nearly a year ago. We were all dressed up for a photo shoot with Nicholas Franklin.

Outfit details: strapless Anthropologie top, Rag & Bone wool tuxedo pants, vintage necklace borrowed from Allison, shoes bought at a boutique in London

I am finally visible on the Styleblogger contest.

  2. Click the button at the bottom of this post.

So there’s this contest.

My little sister just sent me the link for Refinery 29’s Styleblogger contest. I would like to at least upload a photo and join in! I think it would be a lot of fun.

It requires me to login using Facebook. I’ve been off of Facebook for nearly two months now. In fact, just earlier today, I mentioned how much happier I am without it–I’m not keeping in touch with people I was never actually friends with, I’m keeping up with all of my coursework thus far. And hey, have you noticed the blogging? That’s a product of not wasting time  on Facebook.

So, thoughts? Does anyone think this contest is worth breaking my Facebook silence? The solitude has been pretty fantastic, I must admit

Possible photo submissions:

So, I need some opinions. Should I rejoin the masses on Facebook? If so, what photo should I use for my submission?

This is my preferred way to spend Saturday.

Wondering what I’m up to these days?

Well. I’m taking six classes, one of which is Racial Science Fiction–let me tell you, the most interesting and demanding class I’ve ever taken. We first read The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket by Edgar Allen Poe. Now, we’re moving on to a far newer, yet related book, Pym by Mat Johnson. So far, Johnson’s is far more interesting than Poe’s. No offense to Poe, of course.

I just got a second job at the cutest store in Auburn, called Faunhouse. It’s been open since November and I am taking sewing lessons from the owner, while helping her in the store when she needs it. Plus, I will be sewing things for the store! EEEKKK.

I’m spending entire days in silence (which is so relaxing) and I am reading everything required for classes, finishing homework early, watching tv shows and movies, and will be playing video games later tonight. Take that, Resolutions! Oh yes–Alyssa, Sarah, and I made potstickers last night and paired it with a yummy red wine.

Things are going well. I’m becoming content in myself.

Recap of NYE thanks to the Photobooth.

What did I do for NYE? Only dress up 20s style, drink prohibited beverages, and Charleston-ed all night with Kelsey, Brenna, and Chase.

I’m blaming my takeover of all photos on the fact that there were four people in the booth. I should not have coordinated sitting arrangements, clearly.

Official blogging year in review, thanks to WordPress.

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2011 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

The concert hall at the Syndey Opera House holds 2,700 people. This blog was viewed about 8,900 times in 2011. If it were a concert at Sydney Opera House, it would take about 3 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.

7. Have you ever considered wearing actual bone as an accessory? Skye Whitley, Brooklyn, NY has! It’s a little morbid, and a lot of cool. Only $75 for this naturally aged/preserved white tail deer jaw.

6. Just about everyone is blogging these days, including Lauren Conrad, who has pages of makeup and hair tutorials for the rest of us on her site–The Beauty Department.

5. Some of you know that I have an adorable baby cactus, whom I lovingly named Porcupine. He used to be my best driving mate, until my mother complained of his hostility towards her when she moved her arm a little too close to his spikes. Well, I think I’ll just have to transplant him into a terrarium. I’ve been completely obsessed with terrariums as of late. Design Sponge has a great Terrarium Roundup!

4. Ever wonder how Anthropologie manages to find the most unique items? So did bellasugar. So check out this great interview!
