// nearly an Indian summer, and we walked.

Hannah (one of my friends from Auburn that also interned in NYC this summer) came to visit last weekend! We walked. A lot. We walked to the coffee shop, we walked on the HIgh Line, we walked to the #Eccentrico Armani Exhibit, we walked to Chelsea Market, we walked to Nordstrom Rack, we walked, we walked, we walked. Because there was just a bit of chill in the air–a light jacket and a hat, and you’re set.

There is something magical about being as close to November as we were, wearing light jackets, and warming up with hot coffee (or hot chocolate, like Hannah). The leaves were changing, the wind was blowing, we soaked up the last teensy bit of warmth there was…and we walked.DSC_0126 DSC_0140 DSC_0128 DSC_0086 DSC_0061

// lazy Monday wear.

On Monday morning, Allison and I dragged ourselves out of bed for an early breakfast at Crema (THE TOMATO THREE CHEESE QUICHE IS HEAVEN). After breakfast, we visited Cumberland Park for a little fun! Not pictured: the rock climbing attempt and repelling rope. It should be noted that I played with a new lens for these photos! It didn’t go quite as planned. But I did get a few that weren’t blurry out of it!

DSC_0001 DSC_0005DSC_0008 DSC_0012 DSC_0023 DSC_0027 DSC_0029Here’s the thing about Allison & I–when we are traveling, we do two things. First of all, we pack literally everything we could possibly need whilst on an excursion. That includes an extra pair of shoes, an umbrella and/or rain jacket, a book, 2 large cameras, sunscreen, Advil, & sunglasses. In each of our bags. The second thing about us traveling is that after the first day, we are literally exhausted with the number of photos taken the previous day, coupled with our extra large and heavy bags, that we generally completely forget to take photos for the following days. We’ll take a few here-and-there; of savory breakfast bagels (here & here), coffee (here, here, and who are we kidding–probably a few other places), and early morning trips to Brooklyn.

Then, we will completely overlook Allison’s first time trying Vietnamese food, the strange man carrying the mysterious bag at 8 am, the crowded subways, walking over a mile one way to realize we were walking the wrong way all along, the long rides home, the fancy drinks at a prohibition-style bar, a fairly uneventful break from the walk on the steps of the Met, not even venturing towards the Statue of Liberty, walking over a mile for a fabric trade show that we couldn’t get into, my first time trying anything but pre-packaged ramen, and the rainy movie in the park.

But it’s probably for the best–because all of those things were just great for Allison & I. Traipsing NYC, eating one sketchy hot dog from a cart international cuisine at a time.

And now, here’s what we were wearing–the orange shirt was purchased at the Brooklyn Flea, from Martine’s Dream // Allison’s fabulous jumper was found on sale at Scotch & Soda // black flowy top & flowery pink bralette from Anthropologie // the ever-worn Sam Edelman “Petty” booties // Allison’s earrings are from Baublebar

She had a Nashville friend recommend Pies -n- Thighs & O.M.G. fried chicken & waffles. I mean…I may be from the South, but I had never tried the iconic pairing. Imagine here: a cinnamon-y, buttery, fruity waffle. Sweet, but not too sweet. And with that, a salty, crunch, perfectly spiced piece of chicken. To say it was delicious is not giving it justice. Maybe I was starving, maybe it was actually mind numbingly good. Either way, I will definitely be going back.

Other visits that day included Blue Bottle Coffee (another recommendation from the Pies -n- Thighs gurus), the Brooklyn Flea Market, Dylan’s Candy Bar, a quick stop at the Met, and a second cup of joe at Sweetleaf. Of course there were thrifted finds, missed subway trains, bus mishaps, clothing malfunctions, hot dog debacles, and everything else that just happens in NYC that you forget to immortalize in writing.

Our first full day of the trip was such a success. Allison and I haven’t had a long visit in far too long and it was great to catch-up while touring the city.

It should also be mentioned that I found the rather strange jumper I am wearing for $10 at a street fair. I’m not crazy about the material, but it was so comfy!

// happy.

I’ve been meaning to write a post for the past week becauase I was so excited to get to visit the boy my boyfriend best friend for his graduation this past weekend. But you know, there are some things that don’t have words. This is one of them. So happy.

Here are a few moments (when I actually remembered both my camera and my battery). It should be noted that Texas is really, really, really hot. I went through a bottle of sunscreen and still returned to the East Coast with more freckles. DSC_0008 DSC_0062 DSC_0067 DSC_0070 DSC_0081 DSC_0094 DSC_0101 DSC_0106 DSC_0113DSC_0116

A great weekend, spent.

This weekend has been so enjoyable–my older sister, my mom, and my grandmother all came to visit! They got in around dinner time on Friday, and we spent our first evening eating sandwiches and watching Breakfast at Tiffany’s and Downton Abbey.

We also looked at hundreds, possibly thousands, of photos of teacup animals. I WANT A TEACUP SMOOSH-FACE KITTY. I am prepared to spend my meager life savings on one. Here are some links to the BEST websites, for those of you that are also interested in becoming a miniature cat lady.

My sister was also intrigued by this Miniature Schnauzer website.

The afternoon was spent apartment-hunting and shopping. By dinner time, we were all exhausted and ordered-in Chinese. We are now finishing the night off with Fried Green Tomatoes and Jane Eyre.

Evelyn Couch: Hey! I was waiting for that spot!
Girl #1: Face it, lady, we’re younger and faster!
[Evelyn rear-ends the other car six times
Girl #1: What are you doing
Girl #2: Are you crazy
Evelyn Couch: Face it, girls, I’m older and I have more insurance.

Rochester: I offer you my hand, my heart. Jane, I ask you to pass through life at my side. You are my equal and my likeness. Will you marry me?
Jane Eyre: Are you mocking me?
Rochester: You doubt me.
Jane Eyre: Entirely.

What a lovely weekend it has been–only to be followed by a mountain of homework.
